Magen Lev provides support for medically and physically challenged children and their families. When a child is in the hospital there are many organizations that provide help and guidance, however when a child comes home, much of that support stops. Along with joy of being home, there are often feelings of fear, confusion, and isolation.  Parents who are not experienced in dealing with the new challenges are often at a loss of what to do. Here is where Magen Lev steps in.

Before a child gets discharged, they meet with the parents, check out the child’s home set-up, and provide guidance to create a room which is both beautiful and functional. This includes helping in choosing furnishings and expert creativity, the volunteers then help shop for necessary furnishing like bins and shelving, and then they set up the room. This provides a real sense of security for parents unprepared for the care they will need to provide in a home setting.

In addition, the gemach’s medical supplies experts assess the child’s medical needs and ensure that they have all the medical supplies they will need, so that the homecoming can be smooth and worry free. Magen Lev will provide any missing supplies and advise the family how to obtain the supplies from their supply companies.

Once a child is home, there are many issues, small and large, that crop up, and Magen Lev is there for the parents and child to troubleshoot equipment, rearrange the room, give emotional support to the parents, and hook them up with other families in similar situations.

As a child grows, they need specialized equipment to help them progress and thrive. Obtaining these necessary pieces of equipment from insurance is a long process that can stretch for months, and can hold a child back, inhibiting their progress. Magen Lev steps in to fill the gap before the child receives the equipment from insurance. A Magen Lev equipment expert meets with the parents and child, helps them find the right equipment, and fits it for the child. The family then takes the equipment home and uses it until the equipment is received from insurance.

Magen Lev will also adjust and repair equipment that does not belong to the gemach. Magen Lev also adapts toys so that they can be used with switches and adapts backpacks for feeding pumps.
